李知宴，男，1937年3月出生，汉族，1956年考入北京大学历史系学习考古专业。1962年毕业进入北京故宫博物院研究陶瓷，整理研究皇宫珍藏的官窑瓷器，作古代窑址的田野考古，曾率队发掘龙泉窑。1979年进入北京历史博物馆考古部继续研究陶瓷，系统地开展对中国古瓷窑址的考察和发掘，再次发掘龙泉窑。大学毕业后李知宴被分配到故宫工作，研究宫廷收藏的陶瓷，搞窑址调查，做考古工作。1979年以后，中国历史博物馆成立考古部，又把他调到了历史博物馆。为解决陶瓷学术上的重大问题，李老几乎走遍了中国所有的窑址做发掘，他还出国讲学，日本、韩国、新加坡、泰国、斯里兰卡、菲律宾以及中国香港等等，在世界各国报刊杂志上发表了200多篇论文，自己创作或与人合作的著作有24部。现在跟美国耶鲁大学合作专题研究，同时从事耶鲁大学艺术百科全书的编辑工作。
Li Zhiyan, male, born in March 1937, Han nationality, was admitted to Peking University in 1956 to study archaeology. Graduated in 1962 into the Beijing Palace Museum to study ceramics, collate and study the palace collection of official kiln porcelain, as an ancient kiln site field archaeology, led a team to excavate Longquan kiln. In 1979, he entered the Archaeological Department of Beijing Museum of History to continue to study ceramics, systematically carried out the investigation and excavation of the site of ancient porcelain kilns in China, and excavated Longquan Kiln again. After graduating from university, Li Zhiyan was assigned to work in the Forbidden City, to study the palace's collection of ceramics, to conduct kiln site investigation, and to do archaeological work. After 1979, the Museum of Chinese History set up the Archaeological Department and transferred him to the Museum of History. In order to solve major academic problems in ceramics, Li Lao has visited almost all kiln sites in China. he has also gone abroad to give lectures, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Hong Kong, China, and so on. He has published more than 200 papers in newspapers and magazines all over the world, and 24 books have been written or collaborated with others. He is now working on special projects with Yale University in the United States and is also engaged in editing the Yale University Encyclopedia of Art.
